Radiant Floor Solar Heated Water Solar Electricity Micro Hydro Wind Energy

Owens Bell Lane, Asheville, NC

Description of the project

This is part of the Prospect Terrace project in Asheville NC. .  Launched by Mountain Housing Opportunities in conjunction with other nonprofit organizations such as Western North Carolina Green Building Council and the North Carolina Solar Center.

This Healthy Built Home Program included 6 units with solar heated domestic hot water. Each unit has a 64 sq.  Ft. flat plate collector on the south facing roof, mounted at an angle of 45 Deg. . . . Insulated transmission lines bring the solar heated water down to an 80 gallon indirect heated storage tank with electric back up. On a yearly basis the systems are expected to provide as much as 75 % of the required hot water needs, and the resulting electrical savings will equal a reduction of 20 tons of CO2 emissions (same as emissions from 4.3 avg. passenger cars or saving the work of 6 acres of forest to remove CO2).
